Dirk, Mavs Ending Lakers Three-Peat Hopes
Champions don’t die easily. “I might be sick in the head or crazy because I think we’re still going to win the series,” Bryant said. “Win on Sunday, go back home and see if they can win in L.A.”
“We’re disappointed,” said Jackson, who has never been down 3-0 in a series, much less been swept, in 20 years as an NBA coach. “We feel like Games 1 and 3 we controlled the pace of the games. They were better at finishing the games than we were. But we still believe we’re going to win the next game and we’ll go from there.” For the Lakers, they still have Game four on Sunday.
“We’re beating ourselves a little bit, not getting a decent shot in the last five minutes of the game,” Bynum said. Late-game execution has been the story of the show in Games one and three.
No team in NBA history has ever came back from 0-3 down in the Playoffs. Crazy, just crazy, Kobe.

It’s all about turnovers. The Lakers forced the fifth-most turnovers in the league during the regular season, but their turnover differential this series is only +3–that’s only one additional turnover per game. That’s not the type of game a strong defensive team like the Lakers should be playing against shooters like the Mavs. Fisher, Kobe, and Artest need to be getting into passing lanes, disrupting Jason Kidd, and forcing mistakes. That’s not happening, though, and the Mavs got assists on 70% of their field goals last night. If the Lakers have any chance to come back, it’s by disrupting the passer and creating turnovers.
